Link Building : Consider User Experience

Though the framework of search engine optimization (SEO) retains the same skeleton as it did before, the search engines are looking deep into things. Everything connected with the website will come under the scrutiny. Although not a ranking factor the destination that a link leads will be under consideration sooner or later.

Hence honesty towards anchor text usage and the authority of the destination becomes important. Visitors do not wish to be led to dud pages or pages having weak content, are not mobile friendly and web core vitals are disappointing. But in all seriousness if  you lead the user using content and the anchor text to a page with in totality belies the truth and their expectation than that is spam of worst order. User should know if the target page is meant for advertisement of sorts, or an affiliate site or anything that does not hold promise. This can be worse than  bad results on the SERP. 

The seo or webmaster building links using their skills either for higher ranking or for referral marketing should be dead honest. If not it could lead to loss of online reputation on production site as well on the social media networking site where the contents are being pushed.     

Expectation is human nature, and web visitors are sensitive about time they spend to unearth information for facts and figures. They wish that their intent should be fulfilled in a short time without getting trapped in unrelated advertisements or  spam pages.  

Webmaster with ill intent promoting site of client with equal ill intent will resort to these things for making a quick buck. But what they do not realize is the loss or reputation that takes place online. If you are promoting content wrapped links with ill intent you will lose repeat visitors and lose online reputation in time to come as well.   

Good Webmasters

But the buck does not stop here, webmasters with good intent may get trapped in this racket. Honest clients with weak pages and no ill intent may not deliver the experience that the users wish for. Weak or irrelevant content, bad design which lacks aesthetics, irrelevant attributes and shaky web vitals are surely going to disappoint the visitors. 

This is a futile exercise even though the intent is not dishonest. Since the search engines do not reward weak pages. It might be good idea to improve the pages first and then go in for a link building campaign. I know some clients are hesitant in making changes to their websites due to investment concerns or design changes or whatever. Reasoning and logic will play an important role in convincing for a complete change of content, attributes on page and aesthetic. 
Reward: A well built web page will definitely be a successful one post the optimization campaign.

With day to day evolution webmaster should stick to SE guidelines and need/desire of their audience. Simple understanding of human behaviour and logical approach will lead to better results. This is where one's time should be spent rather than spending hours in trying to unravel the algorithms.

Without website promotion you will not get business from the Internet. Without content your site will not be ranking high enough on browsers or search engine SERPs you will not get business. This applies to professionals as well who are seeking response from the Net to increase their services or business. You may be hosting a website for any purpose it may not solve your problem without high ranking and for that you require SEO or search engine optimization which is part of Digital Marketing.      

There is another option for you and that is Google Ads or any other PPC. Well if you can afford or it works for you well and good. But promotion is a long term solution which you can add along with PPC.  Not everyone can afford Advertisements hence there is no option without SEO Campaign.

SEO: Site Maps Most Ignored Website Attributes

Most of the sites made by amateur are weak in attributes that are essential for good user experience especially contents. Haphazard copied contents are common since many web designers do not bother to hire a web content writer or pay for the write up.

Another ignored feature of web development is the site map. Most sites do not have an updated site map embedded and this lacunae is due to negligence by cheap web designers. The site owner have no idea how much they will lose from this negligence and many do not bother. Well if you do not wish to achieve good rankings for high traffic on SERP than it is okay you may be happy with your site being good enough for reference? Well yes if the visitors like it and gain information from and no if they find the site useless. 

For large websites it is imperative to have a site map embedded or linked. The purpose of a site  map is for facilitating indexing by search engines. The other purpose of a site map is to facilitate the human visitor. Hence both attributes are essential and the search engines include them in their indexing and ranking metrics. 

Two most widely used site maps use HTML and XML the first is for humans and search engines as well and the second is for search engines. But site owners and webmasters have to constantly update the site maps for better performance. Hence new URLs should be promptly added and defunct ones removed.  There is an option in Google Search Console to constantly inspect the site maps use it. Search Engine Optimization Failure due to Structural Faults in Websites

As a Website Owner You Should Know all This

Web designers rarely care about optimization elements in the designs. This is not totally correct for those with SEO understandings and regular touch with the SEO consultants do care about elements or attributes that would help the site in ranking and win on the social networks.  

The first element and that which is of utmost importance is of course the link architecture. Search engines index and rank a website using standard calculations of hundreds of metrics they are able to decipher or concur from the website visits time to time. The algorithms like to run through the portals in an orderly manner with ease.

Website Link Architecture

The link architecture is arrangement of pages in an orderly manner. The funnel should create a logical graph depending upon the descending scale of importance to the visitors and certified by the funnel graph as we see in the Google analytics and that of other search engines. It should lead to the right end or conclusion example contact page, booking page purchase page, etc. 

Hence the home page would be the first page that a user would often land upon in an architecture of website this is given the greatest importance in the link architecture until unless it is a doorway page.

Another delimitation of home page being relegated is if the page is purely introduction in nature. Then it is somewhat relegated vis a vis a page with detailed information with an option to click the action button. All the pages be they information or functional pages should be linked to the home page. These should be placed on the top links in a series depending upon their scale of importance:

Home.2.3.4. contact...booking..testimonials, reviews...thanks. The pages post home page are also called internal pages.          

Additional information to be added are usually on two tier in form of html pages, pdf, articles etc.  They should be linked from topical pages or extremely relevant internal pages. Linking to other websites should be avoided even if you own them especially if they are placed in same folder in the hosting space.

Website Contents

Contents to the pages are most important and pages with thin contents are not appreciated. Meaningful and relevant, the contents should be well written without any blemish. The formatting of the contents is important as well for they inform search engines about the importance of the paragraphs as well as of the relevancy. Do not include contents which are not at all related. If the contents add to greater but related information then add them in 2 tier. 

They keyword saturation is important when writing contents for the websites. Spamming is not at all appreciated and your page will be pushed lower down the rung. H 1 and H2 tags should be used frugally usually H1 is the first tag which means important content is placed highest on the hierarchy or arrangement ...naturally. Tags are used in titles and usually H1 is used only once. 
Place contents in quotes if they are suggestive of greater thought or opinion. 

Avoid duplicate contents or similar contents use canonical meta tag if similar or repeated contents have to be used. Duplicate contents copied from other websites is a sure shot failure bound.  Hire a good content writer!

Attributes

Add videos, graphics, and images which are related and use descriptive alt text without fail. Do not keyword spam here as well a warning since the temptation is great.  

The text to background contrast should be appreciable and distance between links should not create a cluster separated by appreciable distance.  

Add indexing and follow option in the meta tag without fail in each page. Leave the robot.txt file empty or add page exclusion instructions without errors.   

Add both HTML and XML site maps and regularly updated. in coding replace index.html with absolute URL on all pages. Some scripts are not properly negotiated by search engines avoid them. Make sure all the pages except those with noindex/nofollow are crawled by the search engines. 

It is wise to be in Google Search Console which will help discover discrepancies and anomaly in site performance also place Google analytical code and connect it with the search console.

Bounce rate, speed and link architecture also determine your success on the SERP. Gone are the days when big concerns could hire a large team of web buzzers and make links using articles and directory submissions. Forums were also in this game but there the admins were more strict so the former two gamed the algorithms no end.  

I worked in an IT concern which was much into gaming the system using my articles they could make cheap copies and get massive links...it worked. But before leaving I told them it will not work in future and it did not. Similarly with directories I could write title and description which was than manipulated by the team and submitted to thousands of directories. Then this too stopped working as I had warned...but they would not listen and the site was sent to the gallows. Anchor repetition also failed. 

Link building still works, directory submission still work, forums still work but in all the cases aesthetics have changed. No spam is tolerated by any search engines. Moreover a large number of metrics have come into picture to index and rank a website on a keyword. 

Quality link building or authoritative links means a great deal of success. if your site gathers natural links nothing like that...here people link your site because they find it useful information or action wise. If your award winning company website is linked with authoritative site offering the awards on that field you have made it. This is an example.

But this will not be the case all the time hence do build links not to game the system but to get referrals. If your site follows the SE guidelines it will not be penalized since referrals lead to web saturation that is essential for websites.  

Many of the metrics are not known by the webmasters and they may never know. But aesthetics will work...always...make the website that delivers good user experience, repeat visitors will stand as testimony.

Why would any one visit a website again and again using a keyword or set of phrases regularly until unless they are finding something useful. Even one time visitor if they stay for a reasonable time and there is an action then the website has scored a point to the search engines. One time visit with good enough time spent on it and or action is there...the purpose is solved in one go.  If you understand this you will also understand the role social media plays in ranking and building an online reputation or authority....that does count.   

By some mechanism search engines are able to make out reputation or authority of the site! Domain age is certainly one of them, hosting period and hosting stability also matters. Social media performance also matters. 

Speed is something which makes a user explore the website, a slow download is a turn off...nobody wants to wait for a site to load. A reasonable good downloading time hence is a must. It need not necessarily be the fastest.

A good architecture means a quick pathway to the targeted page without crazy maneuvers. Hence good link architecture means easy access to important pages and the action page. If you observe the funnel you will discover the pathway that a visitor or visitors take to reach a particular goal. For search engines this would also mean a good directory structure...make use of silos if necessary.  A good site map and well configured robot.txt file all are important.

Contents are foremost as far as good user experience is concerned. Hire a good content writer or be one yourself. Be it website contents, blog contents, article contents, content in user generated sites all matter...  

Contents with videos, infographics and relevant images enhance user experience tremendously. Forget about search engines if your website satisfies the user criteria it will always be the winner. There are many places on Earth that do not spend a penny in advertising but are yet successful, only because of their delivery ...news travels fast.   

A responsive website is mobile friendly which is important since quick search is most of the time taking place on smartphones. Browser compatibility, platform compatibility, content size, readability , optimized graphics and images, contrast between back ground and text, all matter. 

If you can guess all that would matter regarding the user satisfaction inculcate in your design and content without hesitation. If you can be a winner without getting into the mad race of the SERPs you have made it.     

Like reputed libraries which search for a great book by a great author search engines also seek a great website by a great owner.   

Last but least there are no cheap or quick solutions, if you are a cheapster and do not have patient... hang your portal!

Writing Quality Contents Online

For writing quality contents simplicity is a virtue that goes a long way. Make it simple. At the same time understand the meaning of words frequently used as well as less used. Understand the meaning of rare words which are not used often but can be helpful in negotiating a difficult twist whence writing on topics.   

Develop Your Own Dictionary

Increase and maintain a vast repertoire of meaningful phrases and complex words which help in explaining difficult aspects, emotions and complex situations with ease. You can make your own phrases but they should mean well and clear. 

Style Innovation

Innovation is the crux of quality writing, hence develop a unique style, a powerful vocabulary that generate emotive expressions. Be bold, do not hesitate to bring forth a style or views and news in your own terms. 

Quality writing means explaining the topic or announcing an event in a structured language. This is also applicable to writing novels where sentence structure separates professionals from the novice.

It can prevent a clash within a sentence and make each one clear this is especially applicable with case where simple and complex sentences are contained. Although write using simple sentences sometimes complex structure is unavoidable. Hence read about use of comma, full stop and semicolon. Any write up that makes sense is readable hence apart from creating structured write up do not be involved deep into grammar. And get confused!   

Generating Interest & Photos and Videos

If you are associated with a topic or an authority on one…you can generate lot of interest among professionals, amateurs and others alike. Making a write up interesting is your ability, and understanding the readers you attract is also important. If your write ups contain a surprise, an unknown fact, or describe an adventurous event often, you will certainly add more and more readers. 
Related, explanatory or interesting photos when added intermittently at right junctures can increase the readability of a write. Add an info graphic where comparison or figures have to be expressed. And also add a detailed or explanatory video limiting it to just one.    

Blog Writing

Blog writing can be a mix of fact and fiction; in fact all your blog writing should be anecdotal in nature. Here it is you who is behind the narration, if the writing is not anecdotal better create an article and name it so.  Frequent or daily happening is what the readers of a blog look for… keep this in mind. A doctor can write about interesting cases and a surgeon can write about unique operation he has done. There is no limit to topics especially on the Internet.  

In case of a travel blog add pictures to highlight destinations, photos of important places, public activities and interesting people you have come across. Write about small things for example a small pawn shop may be more interesting than a large departmental store. Same things apply to an eatery, small ones on street offering unique food may be more interesting than an upscale joint with standard plate.      

Like any write up success depends upon what interests readers. You should be able to gauge well. 
Blog writing usually has a minimum length of few paragraphs but the entries could be lengthy even beyond two thousand words. The limit arises whence the meaning is achieved and delivered fairly well. Do not go on to write gibberish.

With the complexity of ranking algorithms there is no possibility of coming across magical search terms that would invite tons of organic traffic. It is best to list a large number of terms which are long and semantic in nature. This way you will sideline competition to a good degree and rank quicker. In the contemporary period ranking on prime keywords is nigh difficult and if your seo practices are good you even then it will take a long time to rank.

Topic Clustering A New Approach to Search Engine Optimisation

Search algorithms are constantly evolving and so is the need for for webmasters to keep on updating themselves in order to produce results. The evolution of search engines is natural since there is a constant need to filter trash and weak or spammy content and to be in sync with ever changing technology and trends. 

Hence Google has come with many updates like Panda, Penguin and RankBrain to name a few. The evolution of  indexing and ranking mechanism means change in Seo practices. In the initial stages weak content with excess keywords worked. It does not any more. Hence more and more efforts are being made in creating contents on web pages in order to attract search engines to rank a site higher.

Content Curation in simple words is aggregation of the best content available online. This can be further paraphrased as  topic related or relevant content that users find useful and entertaining. About Website Contents: How to Write?

I have noticed number of times weak contents of websites doing fairly well on the Internet. Well this will not work for long. The website contents should be well researched in order to present unique information. In case of cheaply built  websites the designers simply grab contents from other sites and publish. This is disastrous for those seeking online presence and good traffic.

The contents should be well written and easy to understand. This means structured sentences in logical order, and no grammatical and spelling mistakes. Avoid any short of duplicate sentences and information. This means do not repeat information again and again once is enough. 

In order to write website contents on needs to start from the white board stage. Once the topic is finalized draw the concept. What is it all about? How should it be presented? 

The next step is content creation where in you write down the topic of all the pages that have to be created. Please make sure that no extra content which is weakly related/unrelated to the topic should be included. Hence in a website about Jabalpur city do not add information pages about Bhopal. Indore etc. This will hardly benefit until unless the information is desired. The search engines may see this as spam.      

Once the content creation is complete and approved by the owner you can begin to write. Using choice vocabulary for LSI optimization write down the contents in short paragraph - without being verbose. The word limit in case of most of the websites is about five hundred per page.  

Visitors read selectively hence give a appropriate headings using tags (h2, h3 etc). This will attract visitors since they can then limit themselves to just what they wish to read.    

In case of e-commerce websites internal duplicate content is a serious issue though tolerated by search engines they do weaken your website ranking. Hence take time and write product description in unique manner, well as much as you can since the sites may have many variants of very similar products.      

Infuse search terms naturally but limit to under two percent along with many related search terms. In case of large portals pages having similar contents on should use the meta tag noindex = <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW">. Whence the contents are complete please add relevant title to all the pages and meta description to important pages along with keywords. 

Link the pages internally only if the panels do not contain site links already. Top panel links are most valued hence link important pages there. In the footer one can add functional pages like, contact, booking, etc.

Bounce Rate: Part II

The search methodology is in continuous state of evolution something more popularly referred as updates. These are algorithm changes that search companies regularly exercise. This is done in order to refine results on the SERP (Search Engine Result Page). Like a good library which keeps the best book in the front or visible range of the readers search engines too wish to show the best websites first.      

What is the best website is a matter or personal judgement hence those which are visited the most and read the most have a better chance of rankings. The search engines determine this using their programs and public/editorial  appraisal or vote (Back link). The SE cannot dig a site out of the blue hence both options are taken into consideration and the results are constantly being re-evaluated. 

The bounce rate is one of the indicator and a crucial one. All this is in response to the search query please remember. Hence there is a common sense approach to increase the visitors interest on your site. Something we do in our business restaurants, office, shops, malls etc.    

"In response to a search query" this is very important, it means your site should be extremely focused to your topic or sub topics. If you create a web site on Indian tea than your topics should be on tea, green tea, black tea, organic tea, Darjeeling tea, Assam tea, etc. Hence the content should elaborate tea and each type of tea which are sub topics. To decrease bounce rate a good website owner would desire unique contents on all pages, good graphics and links that point to related contents but not covered by your website. You can provide links to site with related content outside using "nofollow" or create pages placed lower down in the hierarchy but quite visible. The latter option is much better.    

The website promotion should concentrate on main and sub topics for inviting visitors that are seeking what you are offering. The temptation to increase traffic on search terms that are not well covered by your contents should be completely avoided. Ex. Do not optimize on Chinese tea if your website does not cover it. Chinese tea may be referred in your contents but elaborate description is not there. Hence visitors seeking Chinese Tea will not wait on your site and this will increase your bounce rate.

Not only contents all attributes of the website should be looked into. A bad architecture will surely turn the visitor away. Bad graphics , baudy color shceme, bad formatting are turn offs.     

By virtue of programs the site may come up on topics not completely covered by your website. But if you concentrate on focused the incidence would be less. Think how you can engage the visitor on site and also make him move to related pages - Contents, graphics, utility, further information, sound design, pleasing colors, friendly architecture etc.
